It's January!
January brings snow and extreme weather. Please make sure your child is well prepared for cold temperatures.
No-name Calling Week is January 19th through the 23rd. Every year, and all year long, we encourage students to be kind to each other. That kindness includes not using hurtful and unkind words that can hurt another student or adult. Please use the link below to talk to your child about being a kind citizen to everyone.
We have made it to the holiday season! We are all looking forward to enjoying our 2 week winter break, that begins on December 20th and ends January 4. We look forward to spending time with family and friends. While on break, please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes every day. Ask them to tell you about something that they have read. In math, please continue to practice multiplication facts.
Please make sure to check assignment pads every night and their take home folders.
Top 5 ways to make the best of snow days
February 12, 2014
Those of us on the east coast are bracing for (yet another!) winter storm that promises to close schools for several days and leave parents at home with wet gloves and bored kids! Here are a few suggestions for sprinkling some reading and writing in-between sled rides.
Do you subscribe to a newspaper? If so, dig out the paper from the snow, and try a few of these newspaper ideas for learning letters and words or for ways to focus on writing. It might be fun to write a review of your favorite sledding hill or creating a recipe for the best hot chocolate.
Time on your hands means a chance to take a fresh look at your home library. Spend an afternoon with your child sorting through books and organizing them in a meaningful way. Donate any books they’re ready to part with and make some room for new ones!
Ready to get creative? Let your creativity flow by thinking like an inventor. Being curious and making mistakes are all part of the fun.
Last, don’t forget to spend time reading aloud. This one activity can make a huge difference in your child’s literacy growth. Remind yourself of some of the simple yet powerful things to do while you read aloud.
On behalf of Mrs. Manuele, the students and myself, we would like to say thank you to everyone for making our Halloween celebration into a fun and festive party. Thank you to Ms. Quackenbush for organizing the activities, and all the parents who were able to attend and help with all the activities. In a few weeks we will have parent-teacher conferences. Sign ups for days and times will be coming home this week. I look forward to talking to you about your child's progress and ways to help them succeed.
Please make sure to check assignment pads every night and their take home folders.
Technology
Students have completed their slide show presentations and are able to show them to you. If you have access to google chrome, students can log on to their accounts, go to their google drive and present their slideshows. They have also completed their descriptive writing pieces. Students created a story from a nature picture prompt that they chose.

This year we will once again be using chromebooks on a daily basis. I have completed a 3 day workshop on using google apps to enhance our educational experience. We will be using google apps again to publish works, taking tests, research topics, etc. With the new knowledge gained, I will be sharing how students can make video projects and be able to share them with family and friends in a safe, secure web environment. I know the kids will be excited to see their work and computers, and be able to share them with you.
